I\u2019ve always considered myself a movie person, and I can remember many films at different points in my life. \u201cOne Hundred and One Dalmatians\u201d with my mother as a child, or \u201cStar Wars\u201d with my father in 1977. There was \u201cGrease\u201d and \u201cJaws\u201d at a drive-in theater, and \u201cThe Shadow\u201d in 1994 was the first movie I saw by myself. I also shared the experience with another generation when I took my then three-year-old daughter to see \u201cShark Tale\u201d in 2004.\u00a0 Like many people, I have a love of film.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>
Before marriage and children, if there was a movie that I wanted to see, I\u2019d have to see it over opening weekend\u2014most usually at the $5.00 matinee.\u00a0 Over time, I even found myself becoming that guy in the office that people would come to and ask, \u201cIs it any good?\u201d.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>
Back in the day, I earned a degree in Communications and attended the New York Film Academy. It was my dream to enter the film industry, hopefully as a producer or perhaps even as a director. I\u2019ve also tried my hand at writing a few screenplays. However, it didn\u2019t come to fruition, and life went on.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>
Yet that didn\u2019t deter my love of film, and the one thing I took away from my education is that a film revolves around one thing\u2014and that is the story. After all, you can have a one-hundred-million-dollar budget, Oscar-winning talent, and state-of-the-art special effects. But without a strong, concise story, you have absolutely nothing to hold it together.\u00a0 And I have come to understand that first-hand.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>
Perhaps that explains why I have TCM saved as a favorite channel.\u00a0 And with all the different films that I\u2019ve seen, there are many times I thought to myself that I intended to watch a particular Best Picture but just never got around to it. Eventually, I decided to just take the plunge.\u00a0 I\u2019ve watched all ninety-six Best Picture winners, and here I am with a review and statistics for each one. I\u2019ve also learned that I tend to gravitate towards suburban melodramas like \u201cOrdinary People,\u201d \u201cTerms of Endearment,\u201d and \u201cAmerican Beauty.” Perhaps I\u2019m a product of my environment, which is suburbia.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>
My daughter, who I took to see \u201cShark Tale\u201d back in 2004, thought it was a cool idea and suggested that if I were going to take on such a task, I should follow up with a blog. I figured, why not? The reviews presented here are my opinion, and the statistical information is sourced from either IMDB or a Google search.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>
